In 2016 Axis Controls were commissioned by MJ Howard Technical Services to replace the control system and motors on an Eldec DB50 slitter machine.
Problems arose when the original operator station didn't function correctly, and the SSD 540 DC drive system needed replacing.
Having completed many dozens of Eldec upgrades, we opted to keep using the Parker 890 AC drive system, and replaced the drive motors with new Siemens IE3 vector motors.
We opted for a Siemens ET-200SP PLC which is a smaller version of the S7-1500 platform. The operator control desk was based around a Siemens 9" Comfort HMI.
Typically, a Sick FlexiSoft safety system was incorporated, for Emergency stop, guard switch, and rope switch safety monitoring.
The rewind diameter calculation feedback came from a Sick UM30 ultrasonic sensor.
